About Us

In 1962 two local mothers looking for nursery care in the Dulwich area started “Dulwich Village Playgroup Association”. With a £50 loan and a business plan they placed an advert in Rumsey’s chemist in Dulwich Village.

The fees were 5 shillings per session and the playgroup was officially opened on 6th May 1963.

Lady Hutton was employed as the first pre-school leader and supervised the children along with parent volunteers. In 1995 the name changed to Dulwich Village Pre-school.

We are now located in the Old Alleynian Club where our children benefit from the beautiful rural surroundings. There is a large garden with a vegetable patch. On rainy days we go outside onto the gated veranda. We also benefit from a large car park which makes drop off and pick up times much easier!

We run term time only, and use the holiday timetable in line with other Southwark Schools.

We are an Ofsted registered, voluntary managed charity.

Our Aims are simple:

  • To create a developmentally appropriate educational programme to meet the needs of each individual child.
  • Provide quality care and education for pre-school children and support for their families.
  • Share information, resources and offer practical advice.
  • Provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for our children working together to offer equal opportunities for all.

We are proud of our pre-school, and all our achievements and improvements to date.  Our last Ofsted visit was in January 2020 and we were ranked 'Good'.  To read the full report, please click on the icon below.
